Pilzuche Ozz was a ghetrek’d player and Master Engineer who became the chief mechanic and engineer of the Lady Sandhawk, most famously known for his “Quick-start Afterburn” design that allowed the Lady Sandhawk to escape multiple atmosphere-related encounters throughout the years. He was one the few starship engineers who understood the concept of ‘otherspace’ as an actual alternate reality rather than a scientific argument, and his years of research added progress to the study of the concept.
Biography
Early Life
“That boy’s going places. Maybe not the Warren Academy, but places…”
-ghetrek’d coach, while watching Ozz practice
Pilzuche Ozz, normally called simply Ozz, was born on level 210 of Cloud City on Bespin, in 56 BBY. He was given the name ‘Ozz’ after his first year of life, to honor the Ugnaught King Ozz when the monarch smiled at the infant for laughing at a smokescreen. Being born into the Pilzuche Clan, Ozz was expected and encouraged to learn mechanical engineering and carry on the clans’ tradition of maintaining Cloud City’s repulsorlifts systems. While Ozz proved to be very capable in repulsorlift system repairs, he was far more interested in two things: ghetrek’d and starship design.
In 40 BBY, at the age of 16, Ozz was being groomed to begin his primary education in Cloud City’s repulsorlift systems. In a rare show of rebellion among Ugnaughts, Ozz snuck out of the Warrens at night and went to the Upper Levels of Cloud City. Finding a public terminal, he sent an application off to the Eniotna Drangiorg University, wishing to join their shipbuilding program.
There was a brief scandal among the Ugnaught Clans of Cloud City when Ozz received his acceptance letter, and it was brought to the attention of King Ozz himself. Called away from Cloud City, the younger Ozz stood before the King on the Ugnaught platform Ugnorgrad and was accused of disrupting the peace among the Clans. But King Ozz, perhaps remembering the smiling infant who was gifted his name, declared that the boy showed promise. His education was reviewed before the inhabitants present and his scores made public, showing exemplary stats in the areas of starship design and ship improvements.
King Ozz cleared younger Ozz of his charges and wished him luck on his scholastic endeavor but made a personal note that the boy “never forget where he came from” and to always support the Cloud City Spanners, the planetary all-Ugnaught ghetrek’d team. Ozz was delighted to learn that the leader of his people was also a fan of his favorite team and returned the promise.
A year later, Ozz was readying to leave Cloud City for the first time and in line to board his shuttle, comforting his pet reyystott (a type of smallish cat) when a large group of Ugnaughts entered the gatehouse. Ozz was perplexed at this; his decision to break traditions had not won him many friends among his people, even with the support of the King. A few moments later, Ozz recognized several beings as members of the Cloud City Spanners, made obvious by their uniforms. The Spanners, most likely having heard of Ozz’s devotion to their team, honored the young Ugnaught with the highest social practice of their species: a full Kera-Mata. The ceremonial dance used to greet opposing teams on the ghetrek’d field was performed in the gatehouse, much to the confusion (and some consternation) of non-Ugnaught travelers.
Ozz, however, was deeply moved by the gesture, and he returned it in kind, dancing and shouting with the Spanners as best as he was able. Acknowledging the honor given him, he thanked the Spanners for their support and boarded his shuttle, ready to see the stars and learn the art of ship-design.
