            “Greetings! I am M-3PO, human-cyborg military relations!”

                                    -Beak’s standard greeting

M-3PO (XK-275), known as “Beak” to his friends and comrades, was a custom-built, masculine-programmed, M-3PO military protocol droid that served as a co-pilot and sensor operator aboard the ship Lady Sandhawk. Originally built by a Black Sun engineer to serve as a multi-function administrative assistant to a Vigo, he was spirited away by rivals and was bought at a market by Captain Olto of the Sidewinder. From there, he became a crew member of the Lady Sandhawk throughout the Rebellion Era.

Biography

Beak (designated XK-275) was originally constructed in a Black Sun chop-shop on Coruscant in 37 BBY by a young droid mechanic named Carimac, to be a ‘hidden bodyguard’ unit for the Vigos. After a series of assassinations by an unknown assailant had devastated the Black Sun leadership, an upcoming Falleen Vigo named Hazamel took XK-275 to fulfill this role. The Vigo ordered a series of upgrades done to the droid beforehand. XK-275 was ultimately designed to be the one droid that Hazamel could rely on to ignore any restraining bolt, record anything he needed it to, and if necessary, fight with the full power of its mechanical limbs. In a moment of amused pique, Hazamel ordered that the droid be given restricted access to these abilities, only granted by him, and they would be called the Pinocchio Protocols.

Crisis of Generals

In 1BBY, during a raid on Coruscant from insurgents, Beak was smuggled out of Black Sun by Carimac, who had grown to see the droid as his own child. Upon discovering that his droid was missing, Hazamel had Carimac executed.

The insurgents, believing that the droid held data pertaining to Black Sun but unable to access it, turned the droid over to Olto Gabin of the Sidewinder under the pretense of selling Beak via a market.
